Fans flood X with memes as Shreyas Iyer steps up on KKR projection during clash against PBKS

The rain won at Eden Gardens, but there was no shortage of discussion material for the night. The moment that caught everyone’s eye did become the talk of the town. As the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings turned into a washout due to rain, it was none other than the current Punjab team captain, who was once a title-winning captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in the year 2024, managed to steal the spotlight. It was the visuals of Shreyas Iyer standing on the logo of the Kolkata Knight Riders that got viral on social media platforms.

It was not long before the reactions started coming in. Some people were sure that it was an intentional act, while others thought otherwise. The debate grew online, but the incident itself remained minor in cricketing terms. Here’s how fans reacted to the incident:

Shrestha Iyer’s sister adds humor to rain-hit game

The mood changed outside the playing ground when Iyer’s sister, Shrestha, brought humor into the proceedings. After the match was called off due to the rains.

She made a post saying, “Saade Punjabiya da dil vadda hunda hai, lo de ditta ek point.”

The line suggested Punjab had “given away” a point. It reflected both confidence and frustration after a strong start was cut short. On the other hand, the situation on the cricket field also made sense from Punjab’s perspective. When it rained, the match scorecard read 25 for 2 in 3.4 overs in favor of KKR. However, thanks to Xavier Bartlett’s early wickets, Punjab had managed to stay ahead. However, heavy rain ensured no further action, forcing both teams to share points.

Moving forward, the Punjab side still seems well-placed. At present, they top the IPL 2026 rankings with 5 points to their name, thanks to their impressive performances under Iyer. Despite the washout, Punjab appears to be on course. However, KKR is yet to find their feet in IPL 2026.
