The Indian team led by Virat Kohli will travel to Australia after the IPL 2020 concludes.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the contingent will have as many 32 cricketers including the India A players for the two-month-long tour. The tour will comprise of three T20Is, three ODIs, and four Tests.
The selectors are slated to meet later this week to announce the squad for the Tour Downunder.
The selection committee is planning to pick a large squad keeping in mind the players’ availability in case of injuries. “They (selection committee) have been told to pick as large a squad as they want. We want back-up players ready and in Australia right through the tour. If a player gets injured, there shouldn’t be a situation where we have to call for a player from India,” said a BCCI official as quoted by the daily.
The report further suggests that there would be a strong contingent of the support staff and coaching staff who will travel to Australia while the families are not allowed on the tour, unlike the IPL. The franchises were asked to take the final call on allowing the families to stay with the players.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had earlier said that Cricket Australia has sent them an itinerary and the schedule for the tour.
“Cricket Australia has sent us an itinerary. We will play three T20Is, three ODIs, and four Tests there. The first Test will be a day-night game in Adelaide. The dates haven’t been finalised yet,” BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had said earlier this week.
India will also play a Day-Night Test match during the four-match Test series. Kohli and Co. will begin the tour at the end of November where they will first lock horns with Australia in T20Is and ODIs before moving on to the Test series.
