The apex body for cricket in India, BCCI, feels that there is not an instant need to fill the position of CFO which has been vacant since Santosh Rangnekar resigned from the post six months back.
According to a report published in PTI, the top BCCI officials feels that the positin of CFO is redundant as treasurer is their point person.
Notably, the Supreme Court had directed the BCCI to appoint CFO and CEO after the IPL scam brought to notice of court. However, the move of appointing CFO was seen as a ploy to demean the position of treasurer.
There is no mention that you need to have a CFO
“The BCCI is unlikely to recruit a CFO any time soon. If you read the new constitution carefully, there is a mandatory provision for a Chief Executive Officer but there is no mention that you need to have a CFO,” quoted PTI as saying a senior BCCI official on conditions of anonymity.
He also added that if needed, the current CEO Rahul Johri will add on the responsibility of CFO on himself in line with the treasurer Arun Dhumal.
“The current treasurer Arun Dhumal is hands on and if he needs help, the CEO at times can double up and do the job of CFO if need be.”
BCCI won’t appoint high salary executive now
Explaining the reason, the PTI report says that board officials would not be interested to employ a high-salaried executive at a time when the corona virus pandemic hit heavily on its financial stature.
Notably, with the IPL being deferred post indefinitely and other cricket activities suspended, BCCI staggering a huge financial crisis. However, the treasurer Arun Dhumal a few days ago, said everything is fine in the apex governing body and there is nothing to worry about.
