Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan found himself at the centre of a bizarre news when a Pakistan news channel report claiming he had died went viral. The television news channel stated that the 28-year-old had passed away the previous day. It spread rapidly across platforms before any verification could catch up. Canada player Saad Bin Zafarl shared a video of Azam sitting with friends and watching on a phone screen. Instead of shock or anger, he reacted with humour.
Looking at the screen, Azam Khan said “Bada acha player tha. Bechara kal Pakistan se khelne wala tha, mar gaya aaj” . His teammates burst into laughter, and the clip has gone viral on social media and received plenty of views and likes. The moment captured Azam’s light-hearted personality. He has not featured for Pakistan since the 2024 T20 World Cup match against the United States, where he played his 14th and last T20I. He remains active in franchise cricket, including the Pakistan Super League with Karachi Kings.

Azam Khan is currently featuring in the second season of the Canada Super 60, North America’s high-energy T10 competition which will be played at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver from 29 September to 4 October 2026. He was drafted by the Mississauga Masters and joins a squad that includes experienced campaigners such as Sikandar Raza, David Wiese, Colin Munro, Saad Bin Zafar and Kaleem Sana. The format suits his aggressive, power-hitting style perfectly.
On the opening day of the men’s competition, Azam came out for Mississauga Masters against Vancouver Kings and remained not out on 10 off 5 balls, helping seal a five-wicket win after David Wiese’s explosive 79 off 21. Azam already has solid T10 experience, having scored at a strike rate near 170 across previous seasons. His presence in Canada adds another franchise to his career. He has been part of PSL, ILT20, Abu Dhabi T10 and other franchise circuits while waiting for another national call-up.
