It seems like Altay Bayindir will be leaving Manchester United during the summer as both the player and the club want him to go. The Turkish player joined the club in 2023 with the aim of becoming a competitor in goal, but he could not establish himself in the team. As a result, Besiktas is trying to sign him now, and Manchester United are open to negotiating his departure for about €5 million. In such a case, Bayindir will finally get away from one of the most challenging periods in his career when he could not play consistently.
Nevertheless, nothing is set in stone yet. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Turkish club is still interested in signing the player. However, it should be noted that his departure will depend on whether the new coach of the Turkish club agrees to do so. Nevertheless, all the signs show that Bayindir will return to the Super Lig soon.
Altay Bayindir unhappy at Manchester United
Bayindir has been increasingly frustrated throughout the season. He started the season as the first choice goalkeeper of the team under Ruben Amorim; however, his stint was not long at all. After making a number of costly errors, he was dropped from the starting line-up following the 3-1 loss to Brentford in September. Lammens, who joined the club during the summer transfer window, took over and made the No. 1 goalkeeping position his own. The 23-year-old Belgian made an impressive mark with some commanding performances and shutouts.
This resulted in Bayindir being relegated to the bench again. Bayindir has managed to play in only 17 games since joining United from Fenerbahçe in 2023 at a fee of £4.3 million. As a 28-year-old goalkeeper, he is in need of playing time in order to secure his place in the national side.
Manchester United ready to let go of Altay Bayindir
The Red Devils are just as open to moving forward. The goalkeeper is in his last season of his contract, although the club does have an option to extend it for one more year. However, there is no indication of them exercising this option. It is reported that Manchester United would be willing to sell him for about €5 million. Besiktas are considered to be the favorites at the moment and are thought to have reached an agreement over the personal terms with the goalkeeper. Trabzonspor are also in the running, but their priority is on securing the loan of André Onana permanently.
The sale of the goalkeeper will make funds available to purchase a new second choice goalkeeper. According to reports, Tom Heaton will sign a new one-year deal and continue to be third-choice while Lammens will continue being first choice.
