Abhishek Sharma’s explosive Sher-e-Punjab run continues with 229 runs in four games

India’s T20I batter Abhishek Sharma has been having quite a run in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League with his first four innings showing his remarkable form at present. His first four knocks include scores of 77 off 26 balls, 82 off 36 balls, 21 off 9 balls and 49 off 15 balls respectively and at an unimaginable strike rate of 266.28. The runs also made an  aggregated total of 229 from the four knocks. His first two innings against Jalandhar Warriors were particularly outstanding and they included 76 runs off 77 balls and 82 off 36 balls with 7 boundaries and 5 boundaries respectively.

Even when he has not scored a big fifty, Abhishek has continued to make an impact. His 21 off just nine balls came at a strike rate of 233.33, while his latest 49 came from only 15 deliveries, with six fours and four sixes. The statistics speak of a player who has hit the ground running in terms of batting. His form is an added advantage for Soormas, while his performances come at a convenient time for Indian cricket just before India’s T20I series against Afghanistan from September 13.

Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill light up as Amritsar Soormas face Fazilka Falcons

The Sher-E-Punjab T20 fixture between Amritsar Soormas and Fazilka Falcons provided one of a high octane battle between both the teams and it was to offer plenty of fire. Fazilka scored 191 for 6 in 20 overs, the highlight of the innings however was the Skipper Shubman Gill’s onslaught as he hammered 67 off 35 balls, with eight fours, 3 sixes he played throughout some delightful shot in front of the stumps and a six off the second ball that flew deep beyond square leg boundary.

The biggest moment came when Gill faced his India teammate and Amritsar captain Abhishek Sharma. Gill smashed Abhishek for a six, four and another six in the 10th over, but Abhishek had the last laugh. Gill tried to hit the final ball out of the ground but was caught by Naman Dhir at deep mid-wicket. Abhishek celebrated wildly after getting the wicket.  Amritsar then got off to a flying start in the chase, with Abhishek producing another brilliant innings. He smashed 49 off just 15 balls, hitting six fours and four sixes.  The match became more than just another league game because it featured two India teammates, Gill and Abhishek, going up against each other. Their battle added plenty of excitement to an already high-scoring Sher-e-Punjab contest.
