“It felt just like a dream, the moment I saw that t-shirt” – Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Opens Up On Emotional Team India Jersey Moment

For Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the path from a young boy dreaming with a cricket bat to donning the India jersey hit a significant milestone this week. The 15-year-old batting prodigy was presented with his very first senior Team India jersey just in time for the upcoming T20I series in Ireland. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) caught him by surprise at the team hotel, giving him the No. 3 shirt. The moment left the teenager completely overwhelmed.

In a video shared by the BCCI, Sooryavanshi expressed that “I mean, words cannot explain it. The reason I picked up a bat from day one and went to the cricket ground to practice. Today, that dream was fulfilled, and the biggest step in that journey was completed. I truly cannot put this feeling into words. It felt just like a dream, and the moment I saw that t-shirt, I couldn’t stop smiling.”

This milestone comes at a pivotal moment in his career. At just 15 years and 71 days old, Sooryavanshi is the youngest player ever selected for India’s senior men’s squad. If he steps onto the field during the T20I series against Ireland, he will break the record for the youngest cricketer to debut for India in men’s international cricket. The current record is held by none other than Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut at 16 years and 205 days back in 1989.

How Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Recent Form Earned Him The Indian Call-up

Sooryavanshi’s selection is truly justified by his outstanding performances across various formats. He steps into the senior team after an incredible IPL 2026 season, where he racked up 776 runs in just 16 innings, boasting a phenomenal strike rate of 237.30. Not only did he claim the Orange Cap as the tournament’s top scorer, but he also set a new record with 72 sixes. His impressive campaign featured one century and five half-centuries, showcasing his consistency and aggressive style of play.

But his impressive form didn’t stop with the IPL. In the recent tri-series final for India A against Sri Lanka A, Sooryavanshi lit up the field with a blistering 94 runs off just 29 balls. During that innings, he made history by achieving the fastest List A fifty ever, reaching the milestone in a mere 11 deliveries. Earlier this year, he also delivered a match-winning performance with a stunning 175 runs off just 80 balls in the Under-19 World Cup final against England.

As a result, the call-up to the senior national team has been viewed as a natural progression. While competition for a place in the playing XI remains strong, Sooryavanshi has already crossed a major milestone.
