‘Woke Up Under a Truck’: Michael Clarke Shares Details of IPL Final Night Crash

Michael Clarke, the ex-Australia cricket captain and a voice in the IPL 2026 commentating crew, shared a close call from a terrifying accident. This happened soon after the IPL final in Ahmedabad. He explained that the accident struck past midnight as he headed for the airport. While dozing off in the front passenger seat, his car crashed into a big truck. The crash was brutal; he stated that “half of the car was gone,” leaving it totally wrecked. Amazingly, despite the awful smash-up, Clarke only walked away with some minor bruises. He added that the force of the crash pushed the front section of the car into the cabin area. He eventually made it back to Australia unharmed.

Clarke on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast said that, “The driver explained to me that the brakes [brake lights] on the truck weren’t working, so my driver hit the back of the truck. It was a big semi-trailer, and our car had gone underneath it. The front half of the car was virtually gone.”

While speaking about the driver he said, “I got away with some bruises, but I definitely think he had a little break in his leg.”

Support and Recovery After Michael Clarke’s Crash

The Support From BCCI and Locals

Following the accident, Clarke spent nearly an hour on the roadside before another vehicle arrived to take him to the airport. During that period, he received assistance from local people and officials connected with the tournament. Clarke publicly thanked those who stepped in to help during the emergency.

He said the support extended well beyond the accident scene. According to Clarke, officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) remained in touch after the incident and regularly checked on both him and the driver. He described the assistance as consistent and reassuring during a difficult situation. Clarke also credited the kindness of people in India for helping him reach home safely after the crash.

Current Status and Support of Clarke

Clarke is back home now and said he only got some minor injuries. The ex-Australian captain stated that the crash was more shocking than painful since he fell asleep before it happened. Can you imagine waking up to find your car wedged under a truck? That has got to stick with you.

Despite Clarke just having bruises, his main worry was for the driver, who probably thought he had a broken leg. The driver was actually more concerned about the company car being damaged and wouldn’t go to the hospital at first. Clarke insisted he get checked out. So while this turned an ordinary trip to the airport into a scary incident, Clarke admitted he felt lucky to leave unharmed and catch his flight home. It could’ve ended much worse, ya never know.
