KS Bharat is hanging up his gloves and pads, wrapping up his international cricket career. On June 4, the 32-year-old wicketkeeper-batter bid farewell to a journey filled with perseverance and the lifelong dream of representing India. He also acknowledged the role of his family, stating that the dream of wearing the India cap was shared by all four members of his household. Even though his international journey has ended, Bharat made it clear that he intends to remain involved in cricket through playing, mentoring and coaching in the future.

Bharat’s international career
Bharat finally broke into the international scene after consistently nailing it in domestic cricket. His Test debut was against Australia in Nagpur in February 2023, and he played his last one in February 2024 in Visakhapatnam against England. In seven Tests, he mustered 221 runs, top scoring with 44. While keeping, he rounded up 19 dismissals – 18 catches and one stumping. When India was seeking a dependable wicketkeeper, he got the call-up after years of just being on the sidelines of the national team. So, Bharat stepped up in a big way when it mattered most.

In his farewell message, Bharat reserved special thanks for three major figures in his career. He credited Virat Kohli, his IPL debut captain at Royal Challengers Bengaluru, for giving him an opportunity to showcase his abilities. He also thanked Rohit Sharma, under whose captaincy he made his Test debut, describing that moment as priceless. Bharat further expressed gratitude to former head coach Rahul Dravid, whose guidance from the India A level to the senior national team played a significant role in his development as a cricketer.

Domestic achievements remain a major part of Bharat’s legacy
Though Bharat’s international stats were nothing to write home about, his domestic game was off the charts. He made history in the Ranji Trophy, scoring the first triple century for Andhra. It happened against Goa in 2014-15, and he hit 308 runs. That knock did more than just wow crowds; it marked a milestone for both him and the team. In total, across 105 first-class matches, Bharat racked up 5,686 runs, hitting ten centuries and 32 half-centuries. Plus, his 36.44 average showed steady performance. In other formats, his skills shined too. There were 2,502 in List A runs with eight hundreds, and 1,573 in T20s. All these figures highlight how consistently good he was, earning him serious consideration for the national team in the end.
