Jofra Archer’s bad day came on March 23, 2025, in Hyderabad. When Archer came in, Sunrisers Hyderabad was already soaring like an eagle. The merciless attacking was continued by Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen, and as the result, Archer ended up conceding 76 runs for four overs, which is the most expensive spell ever bowled in IPL.

Jofra Archer – 0 for 76 vs SRH (IPL 2025) 

Though Archer had rejoined the IPL as a part of Rajasthan Royals, his opening match proved to be a nightmarish experience. He leaked runs at an average of 19 runs per over without even dismissing any batter. It all began when Travis Head scored 23 off an over, followed by SRH batters hitting out of the park at ease. His record of getting 0 for 76 was a record that stood for not more than a year.

Mohammed Shami – 0 for 75 vs PBKS (IPL 2025) 

Mohammed Shami went through a similar agonizing experience playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. During his stint against Punjab Kings on April 12, 2025, he gave away 75 runs from his four overs, which made his economy rate 18.75. This became the second most costly bowling performance in the history of IPL.

Will O’Rourke – 2 for 74 vs RCB (IPL 2025) 

Will O’Rourke entered the record books during Lucknow Super Giants’ clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 27, 2025. The New Zealand pacer gave away 74 runs, although he did dismiss Rajat Patidar and Liam Livingstone. Virat Kohli and Jitesh Sharma led the charge as RCB completed a memorable chase.

The record for the most expensive spell lasted almost six years until Basil Thampi set the benchmark in a match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2018. He gave away 70 runs from just four overs, an uncommon performance from the usually effective bowler.
