Another big chapter has been added to the jam-packed white ball schedule of Pakistan. The PCB has confirmed that there would be an Australia vs Pakistan three-match ODI series starting from May 30 in Rawalpindi. The tour would also see games on June 2 and June 4 in Lahore. As far as the significance of this series is concerned, it comes amid preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup for both sides. It will also bring alive the emerging rivalry as Pakistan has recently defeated Australia by 3-0 in a T20I series in Lahore. The senior players, busy schedules, and IPL commitments have ensured that this series is receiving a lot of attention as well.
As far as the arrival of the team in Pakistan is concerned, Australia are expected to arrive in Islamabad on May 23 before the first game. Not to forget, this series would be the first bilateral ODI assignment of Australia in Pakistan since 2022.
Aussies’ ODI Tour of Pakistan to Overlap With IPL Playoffs
The news has generated further speculation about the playoff phase of IPL 2026. The tour of Australia to Pakistan coincides with the latter stages of the IPL competition, with the finals scheduled to take place on May 31. Therefore, certain Australian cricketers may find themselves torn between franchise responsibilities and international obligations. Cummins, Hazlewood, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh continue to play pivotal roles for their franchises in IPL. However, in case of qualification to playoffs, participation in Pakistan’s ODI series would be problematic for such players.
There are increasing chances that certain veteran fast bowlers will rest. It was reported that Cummins, Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc may not be selected for the Pakistan and Bangladesh tours, allowing themselves additional time to recuperate from the Ashes series. This will be the beginning of Australia’s journey towards retaining the ODI World Cup in 2027.

Pakistan will host its latest tournament as they continue their hectic schedule as hosts for cricket in international cricket. One of the countries to feature in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and to have already visited Pakistan for T20Is earlier in the year was Australia.
The ODI series will provide Pakistan with yet another opportunity to assess their teams under home conditions. The Australian tour may prove to be an important one for Australia, as the next couple of years leading up to 2027 will feature the Indian tour, the 150th Anniversary Test match against England and an Ashes tour before the World Cup.
