Batters to have hit 6 fours in an over in the IPL

The 2026 edition of the Tata IPL has already crossed its midway or halfway stage as it’s called. However, it’s not the first time ever that a ton of batting performance backed by great power and supreme ability have risen to the fore to give fans the gala entertainment they’ve grown accustomed of seeing from a league as special as the Indian Premier League and critics their penny’s worth where it comes to making peculiar observations in the games.

We have already witnessed plenty of centuries in the 2026 season of the IPL with the likes of Sanju Samson hitting two of his own and centuries belonging to the highest caliber and order from the likes of KL Rahul, Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and the likes.

However, there have also been certain classy knocks marked by powerful boundary hitting by some of the other rising talents in the firmament of the IPL that may not have ended in a three figure individual score but did give us a record breaking feat. Hence, something to cherish.

Thanks to a special batting performance as seen from the blazing bat of a fine talent in the Punjab Kings’ camp, and that too, very recently, everyone’s focus has freshly shifted onto a subject of intrigue and wide discussion!

So let us talk about the times where batters hit six consecutive fours in the IPL history including an emphatic achievement witnessed on April 25, 2026-

Ajinkya Rahane against Sreenagar Aravind (for RR v RCB)

Truth be told, each time when he comes out to bat in the current inception of the IPL, irrespective of the fact that he is the captain of a side of such champion make as the KKR, the mind can’t help but rewind back to the moments where Ajinkya Rahane seemed perhaps more sure of his abilities as a batter. A proper frontline batter who used to score quite a few runs, taking on the best of the bowlers out there and looked the part of someone who enjoyed being out there.

And a firm indication of just the above was evidenced back in the 2012 season where for a Rahul Dravid led Rajathan Royals, Ajinkya Rahane carved six glorious boundaries of as many deliveries against Srinath Aravind from the RCB camp.

It’s now 14 years back in the day. And it was an absolutely brilliant occasion for the experienced right hander who scored 6 boundaries on the bounce in the 14th over of RR’s batting inning. Not only did Rahane score his maiden IPL century, his fantastic hundred helped Rajathan to emerge as the royals in the clash against Bangalore.

Having said that, a question should hopefully be asked of the great batter. Can the Rahane of the present derive some much needed confidence and a mental boost from seeing his own batting from back in the day? What a moment would that become for KKR, one wonders!

Prithvi Shaw against Shivam Mavi (for DC v KKR)

It was back in the year 2021, a period of time where one could safely say a certain Prithvi Shaw hadn’t yet fallen out of flavour with the selectors and more importantly, his own sense of cricketing career hadn’t yet hit the low from which, truth be told, he still needs to recover.

There’s a sense of bittersweet romanticism associated with exceptionally talented cricketers who seem to lose their way, isn’t it?

And if you have ever felt that way, then perhaps you’d realise that beyond the glib and glamour of Indian cricket, especially leagues a such as the IPL, somewhere it hurts to see how low key Prithvi Shaw has been in the past couple of season- or should one say more?

Though make no mistake for in 2021, he was in solid touch in the IPL and was able to collect some solid scores staying true to his humongous talent. And on one particular occasion, in a contest against the KKR unit, Shaw’s bat smattered Shivam Mavi in an important KKR v DC contest.

What was remarkable about the right hander’s feat was that Shaw hit Mavi for six consecutive fours in the very first over of the first batting power play and in the process becoming the very first batter in IPL history to record the feat. Speaking of the batting powerplay!

Prabhsimran Singh against Mukesh Kumar (for PBKS v DC)

Here’s a fact that may not be contested anytime soon. And it’s that April 25, 2026, clearly emerged as the day where the fan realised, yet again, as to why the skill or art of batting is considered to be the brute ruler in the mighty world of the IPL and not bowling. Nearly 1000 runs were scored on a super Saturday in a double header that saw each of the 4 teams emerging with north of 200 run team totals, these being- Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Rajathan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

And in an exceptional moment marked by supreme innovation and agricultural striking, Punjab’s Prabhsimran Singh blasted a clueless looking Mukesh Kumar for 6 consecutive boundaries inside the batting powerplay.

In what could be described as a moment of supreme hitting marked by several innovate and airborne shots, Prabhsimran Singh made lightwork of a bowler who can hardly ever be described as a novice. Combining attacking strokeplay with a great feel for reaching the gaps on either side, Prabhsimran tethered Delhi’s frontline seam attack and backed himself to go big.

Resultantly, not only were six consecutive boundaries scored in one single over, Prabhsimran along with Priyansh Arya at the other end, ascended Punjab to go after a very lanky 264 run ask, which the side batting chased down with an over left in spare.
