Key records that have already been set in IPL 2026

With dust having settled on 38 contests already and the season at the halfway stage, the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League, it must be said, has kicked up quite a storm. The narrative this time around has seen a clear tug of war between two absolutely contrasting narratives. And what are those? While on the one hand, one has seen the big sides or the noted champion teams of the IPL clearly struggling for form and rhythm- think of MI, KKR and CSK- the rise of young Indian talents who lack experience but not the skill has gone on to dominate the show on the other hand. Think of Priyansh Arya, Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Sarfaraz Khan, Sai Sudharsan and the likes. While the youngsters are making the most of their time in a league that has often seen foreign players of repute
producing incredible performances, well established teams are being upset in their rhythm with their paths jolted by incredible efforts from of the lesser hyped teams.

And you have to say that all this has furthered the appeal of the IPL and amplified its overall popularity. This has led to some number cracking and given the statisticians and record keepers with a lot of work to do.

All of that said, let us look at some of the key records that have already been set in the 2026-i.e., the ongoing- edition of the Indian Premier League as of April 26, 2026:

Highest Individual Score by an Indian in the IPL

Calm, composed and classy, there are myriad adjectives with which to describe one of the truly under appreciated talents that we have amid us. When KL Rahul of Delhi Capitals scored his magnificent
152* off 67 balls, he did something more than becoming the first Indian to cross 150 in an IPL match.

Well that he did, but he also did on that occasion is serve a polite and humbling reminder to fans who perhaps remain besotted only with the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Abhishek Sharma that he too, exists in this widely entertaining world of the IPL.

An innings of significant class and quality, KL Rahul attacked the best that Punjab threw at him and in no particular occasion did it look as though he was pinch hitting or nervously whacking around to get a few mighty hits to his name.

An incredible innings of finesse and composure and one that shall always remind us IPL fans about not undervaluing the contributions of Indian talents in a league that’s dished out a red carpet welcome to overseas talents!

Highest Successful Chase in T20 History of IPL

The intent and confidence with which the Shreyas Iyer led Punjab Kings are performing this season leaves them- and rightly so- stationed on the number #1 spot on the prized IPL rankings.

Despite having played 7 contests on the bounce, they have not even lost one. Forget, the insane level of consistency that PBKS have maintained insofar, they’ve given the best out there tremendous fight and something to think about.

Which is quite an outstanding achievement given the fact every single team out there that they have competed against has lost more than one contest, easily. That’s whether you think of a biggie like Mumbai Indians or a former champion team like the CSK.

And as of April 25, 2026, Punjab set foot on a proud and glorious record in the firmament of the IPL after they conquered a really imposing total of 265 with Delhi making 264 runs, which was a a magnificent achievement in its own right.

But not only did Punjab chase down a monstrous T20 team score, they did so with an over left in reserve. If that is not confidence shattering to all sides competing against the PBKS, then what is?

Highest Score for Delhi Capitals

Magnificent and brutal, powerful and focused- Lokesh Rahul, always composed and always batting in the best interest of the team was this and more on what was a rollicking day in the history of the IPL, as seen on April 25, 2026. His 152 not out against Punjab Kings was his sixth overall
century in the IPL but it was also the highest individual score ever achieved by a batter for the Delhi side. Make no mistake this is no small feat; talents such as AB de Villiers, Virender Sehwag and Shreyas Iyer himself have turned up for the noted Delhi team in the past.

And KL’s brilliance stands head and shoulders above some of the most illustrious names in the annals of Delhi Capitals!

Most Runs in a Single Day (2 matches)

On April 25, 2026, the Indian Premier League unfurled a glorious and batting dominant run feast on what was a thrilling and fun filled mega Saturday.

While on the one hand the Rajathan Royals took on Hyderabad later in the evening, the opening salvo toward big run scoring had been amply set by the Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings in a mega Saturday opener, rightly titled the Northern Derby.

No fewer than 986 runs and 59 sixes were recorded on April 25, 2026, which is a world record for most runs ever scored on a single day in any given moment of the Indian Premier League. Forget not, Punjab scored 116 in the first batting PowerPlay. Where are those sorts of lofty runs are coming from?

Fastest Century for Delhi Capitals

Sublime with the bat, stylish in every possible way and at the end of the day, collecting runs at great speed! Perhaps these are the kind of monikers that one would resort to when describing one of the finest centuries ever witnessed in an IPL contest and KL Rahul’s splendid effort with the bat against the Delhi Capitals on April 25 merits such fine compliments.

As he scored a fine century off just 47 odd deliveries, he not only reached yet another 3-figure mark in the decorated annals of the IPL but put his name against a sixth career century in this popular league. Which is no small achievement, ever. What do you reckon?

KL Rahul 47-ball century is the fastest ton ever scored by any Delhi batter in the IPL, a feat that may stay that way for quite some time unless of course Rahul himself smashes his record.
