Every so often, cricket witnesses the rise of a remarkable talent—someone who wastes no time in grabbing headlines and becoming a spectacle in their own right. Sooryavanshi seems to be one such rare emergence.
This isn’t to draw direct comparisons with all-time greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Viv Richards, or AB de Villiers. Yet, in terms of the buzz and intrigue he has generated, Sooryavanshi has managed to command a similar level of attention.
Still in his teens and not even close to turning 20, he plays with striking confidence and fearlessness. His batting has already created a stir, and his numbers back it up—122 runs from just three IPL games in the 2026 season underline the impact he has made in such a short span.
Even in his most recent outing, he didn’t need a half-century to leave a mark. His blistering 39 dismantled the confidence of the Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack, taking apart what is widely regarded as a strong unit. It was the kind of innings that demanded attention—whether you were watching from the stands or on a screen.
What adds another layer of intrigue is the chatter that followed the clash between the Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai.
Speculation has already begun suggesting that Sooryavanshi could eventually end up representing the very side he dominated.
The Rajasthan Royals have played a crucial role in shaping Sooryavanshi’s journey.
Known for identifying and nurturing young talent, they have previously developed players like Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Riyan Parag. Sooryavanshi now appears to be the latest name on that list.

However, the franchise also has a history of letting big names slip away, with their decision to release Jos Buttler still surprising many. Given how unpredictable the Indian Premier League can be, it wouldn’t be shocking if Mumbai Indians—five-time champions with a reputation for securing marquee players—make a move for him in the future.
Sooryavanshi’s value is only rising, and his aggressive approach against Jasprit Bumrah has further strengthened his growing reputation.
In a rain-shortened 11-over contest, he hammered 39 runs off just 14 deliveries, including five sixes and a boundary.
The highlight of the innings was undoubtedly the two towering sixes he struck off Bumrah. Despite a three-hour rain delay, the much-anticipated showdown delivered, with Sooryavanshi emerging on top in their brief contest.
Though it lasted only five balls, it showcased his fearless mindset—completely unfazed by reputation and willing to take on the very best.
Adding fuel to the speculation, former Board of Control for Cricket in India selector Jatin Paranjape suggested that Sooryavanshi could one day play for Mumbai Indians.
“Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will play against his future team tonight,” he posted on X, sparking widespread debate.
Whether that prediction becomes reality remains uncertain. Would Rajasthan Royals be willing to part ways with such a promising talent? In a league as unpredictable as the IPL, surprises are always around the corner.
After all, the return of Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians following his successful stint with the Gujarat Titans is a reminder of just how unexpected things can get.

True to the changing nature of the IPL where a talented cricketer who seemingly belongs to one particular franchise and shines brightly (with it) often shifts franchise and makes a new home – think Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Jadeja, KL Rahul- Vaibhav Suryavanshi too, could change gears.
There may come about that day and not too distant in the future where he shrugs the glowing pink of Rajasthan’s royal colour in favour of the charming allure of Mumbai’s blue.
