It has been nearly 60 days since the last official football match was played in one of the major leagues in Europe. The coronavirus has brought football, and essentially all sports down to their knees. But the Bundesliga has now offered a ray of hope, to all football fans.

After more than a month of living without football, the Bundesliga looks set for a return, in the month of May.

Once the league resumes, there will be a lot of anticipation surrounding the title, with just six points separating the top four teams.

Bayern Munich won the big prize last year, after a tight race that went down to the wire. The current campaign looks like another scrappy affair but the Bavarian giants currently have a four-point lead at the top.

With that said, here are three reasons why Bayern Munich remain favourites to win an unprecedented eighth straight Bundesliga title.

#3 A perfect blend of youth and experience

There’s a reason why Bayern Munich are on course to win a record-breaking eighth Bundesliga title. Over the years, they have amassed a squad that few teams can boast across all of Europe.

The Bavarian giants have the experience of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller, and Manuel Neuer to fall back on.

But the German champions also have young blood, with the likes of Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, and most notably Alphonso Davies, who has been the breakout star, this season.

With a squad that’s beaming with talent, Bayern Munich remain firm favourites to continue their domestic dominance.

#2 Robert Lewandowski’s form in the Bundesliga

While the Polish striker has been a force of nature, ever since joining from Borussia Dortmund, Robert Lewandowski has hit further heights this season.

With 25 goals in 23 Bundesliga games, he has been unplayable at times, picking apart defences all on his own.  The 31-year-old leads the goalscoring charts in the Bundesliga this term, and his goals will be crucial if Bayern hope to retain the league title.

Lewandowski’s exploits have been crucial as always, but with his red-hot streak, few teams will be able to stop the Bavarians from romping towards another glorious domestic campaign.

#1 Hansi Flick: The orchestrator

Judging by Bayern Munich’s current position, it can be easy to forget how wobbly they looked at the beginning of this season.

Under Niko Kovac, the side struggled to stamp their authority, and the coach was shown the door. Hansi Flick was promoted in his stead, and the team have completely transformed since.

Despite the injury issues at the back, Die Roten have regained a commanding lead. Thomas Muller looks completely rejuvenated, and so does Thiago Alcantara

Add to that the refreshing performances of Davies, David Alaba and even Ivan Perisic. Credit must be given to Flick for taking a side which was in ruins and transforming them into genuine title contenders.
