A hopeless chase became a thrilling comeback thanks to a man who proved to be a real hero. The 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Mukul Choudhary saved a hopeless situation by giving a brilliant performance against the Kolkata Knight Riders with a 54 off 27 balls. His amazing innings consisted of seven sixes, great execution, and aggressive intent. At 128/7, LSG had little hope left; however, in four overs, Mukul changed the scenario completely. He is no longer an unnoticed player for LSG anymore.
He stayed composed after the win. Mukul on being asked about his approach to his innings, described it, “God has given me this opportunity… my aim was to bat till the last and see what happens.”
He spoke about waiting for the right ball and trusting his strength. His mentality describing the last 4-balls of the match, “In my mind I knew one out of the four balls would be in the slot.”
Early Struggles and Quiet Rise
But his progress was anything but easy. First, he started from an area where cricket infrastructure was poor. Domestic performances were nothing to boast of. His opening one-day career also was quite ordinary. Nevertheless, he continued his grind. Success in the Under-23 tournament turned the tide in his favor.
Scoring at a great pace, he managed to get himself selected for T20 in Rajasthan. Then followed the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He hit a couple of crucial knocks with high strike rates. This brought him a place in the IPL auction, with his value increasing dramatically from 30 lakhs to 2.6 crore rupees.

Inspired by Dhoni’s Finishing Mindset
Mukul’s game carries a clear influence. On being asked about his cricketing idol, he confessed, “I have always looked up to MS Dhoni… I am a finisher too, and I want to become like him.”
He even switched to wicketkeeping after watching his idol. The famous helicopter shot remains close to him, about which he said, “That helicopter shot… is something I still remember from my childhood.”
Against KKR, he showed confidence and calm-head under pressure. He did not panic. He was in control of the game. He picked his moments. Like Dhoni, he was confident in the closing stages.
In summary, Mukul’s success comes from patience and focus. His artistry does not lie in scoring runs but winning matches. LSG bet on talent; Mukul proved his worth. With consistency, this inning might go down in history as a milestone.
