In what has been a tumultuous year for Smriti Mandhana, one in which she became a World Cup winning star for her country (given India’s recent triumph in the ODI World Cup), as well as the person who witnessed her own wedding being called off after everything was set for the big occasion, it beckons us to direct respect to where its due. And one reckons, it is towards the peaceful disposition of the great left handed batter who not only shepherds the responsibility of her ebullient team as its vice captain, but contributes wholly towards upping the ante of India’s attack at the top order. Most recently, the girl from Sangli, Maharashtra, who’s earned plaudits for her aggressive and remarkable stroke play pretty much everywhere- from Mumbai to Melbourne, Surat to Sydney- was in front of the public making a first, if also, much-awaited public appearance ever since the recent round of events surrounding her personal life. So the question is what exactly happened and what did Smriti Mandhana have to say as she was amid tens of dozens in the beating heart of the national capital, New Delhi?

Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana made her first public appearance since she announced that her wedding had been cancelled. Instead of focusing on her personal life, she chose to talk about what truly matters to her — cricket and her passion for the game.

The event took place in New Delhi, where Mandhana spoke with calm confidence about her journey in cricket and what keeps her motivated every day. She shared that nothing in life makes her happier than playing cricket. According to her, when she wears the Indian jersey, all other thoughts disappear and her full focus goes toward representing her country and doing her best on the field.

Mandhana reflected on India’s recent Women’s World Cup victory, calling it a dream come true after many years of hard work. She explained that the team had imagined lifting the trophy long before the final match, and when it finally happened, it gave them goosebumps. She also spoke about how special it was to have former cricket legends present during that big moment.

Although she did not talk about her cancelled wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal at the event, Mandhana had earlier confirmed that the marriage was called off and asked everyone to respect the privacy of both families. She said she is a private person and wants to move forward while focusing on her career.

Mandhana ended her remarks by expressing gratitude to her supporters and reaffirming her commitment to Indian cricket. She said she hopes to continue playing and winning trophies for India for many years to come.
