After getting injured in the opening test at Kolkata (whilst attempting a sweep in the first inning), a contest which recently ended in a debacle for hosts, India, what could have been a further debacle was if Shubman Gill would’ve sustained a serious injury to the neck. Thankfully this wasn’t the case. But it was a blow to the sensitive neck region whilst in action on the 22 yards that kept him out in the second innings, during which time he was found on the ICU table at Kolkata; no iota of joy in that, ever.

Having said that, India, who found their backs to the wall and very much smashed by a spirited total team performance led by Temba Bavuma’s Protea army (who won for the first time ever a Test match in fifteen years), will now want to come back. And assert themselves in the second and final Test match of the series (slated for Guwahati), having lost to South Africa by 30 runs recently.
Can that happen? Will that happen? We know nothing of that. But what is known is that usual full time skipper Shubman Gill is now thankfully out of the hospital and medical care and recovering speedily. Even though that still isn’t a hundred percent good news just yet.

Why?

Here’s what a latest news piece shared on the status of the convalescing cricketer, an outstanding top order batter with a mega series in England earlier this year:

“He (Gill), however, remains in doubt for the second Test in Guwahati starting Saturday.
India have a training session in Kolkata on Tuesday morning but Gill is not expected to take part in that. The team is expected to fly to Guwahati on Wednesday, but with commercial air travel not advised for people recovering from neck issues, Gill is unlikely to fly with the team that day.”
