At the other end of the table, Brescia joined SPAL in Serie B after they were relegated, following their loss to Lecce.
Serie A gameweek 35 results:
Without further ado, let’s take a look at our Serie A Team of the Week for gameweek 35. The formation used for this team is 4-2-4.
Goalkeeper: Pietro Terracciano (Fiorentina)
Pietro Terracciano displayed a goalkeeping masterclass against Inter Milan as he helped Fiorentina to a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. He kept a clean sheet, made the highest number of saves (7) and recoveries in the game (7). If not for Terracciano, La Viola wouldn’t have been able to survive the onslaught from the Nerazzurri.
Right-back: Bruno Peres (Roma)
Bruno Peres was outstanding in Roma’s 6-1 thrashing of SPAL. The former Torino man had a scintillating game as he scored a brace from the right wing-back position and did his defensive job too by managing the second-highest number of recoveries in the game (8).
Centre-back: Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus)
Matthijs de Ligt is now settled at Juventus after a shaky start to life in Turin, with the summer signing from Ajax getting better with every passing match. The Dutch international had a great game against Udinese and was unfortunate to be on the losing side. De Ligt scored a stunning goal from 25 yards out and managed the highest number of recoveries in the game (9), which the Serie A champions lost 2-1.
Centre-back: Rodrigo (Udinese)
Rodrigo put in a splendid performance against Juventus as Udinese managed a shock 2-1 victory over the Italian giants. The central defender was immense against the Old Lady as he provided the assist for the winning goal in injury-time, managed the highest number of blocks (1) and the third-highest number of interceptions (2) in the game.
Left-back: Domenico Criscito (Genoa)
Domenico Criscito helped Genoa to a much-needed victory over their arch-rivals, Sampdoria. The 33-year-old was brilliant throughout the game as he scored a goal from the penalty spot, managed the highest number of interceptions (3) and blocks (3) in the game. The 2-1 win means that Genoa remain four points and a place outside the relegation zone with three games to go.
Central midfielder: Seko Fofana (Udinese)
Seko Fofana has been one of the most important players in the Udinese team for a few years now. The Ivory Coast international was at his very best as La Zebrette stunned Juventus 2-1. Fofana managed the highest number of take-ons (5) and scored the winning goal in the injury-time.
Central midfielder: Sergej Milinković-Savić (Lazio)
Sergej Milinković-Savić is arguably the best central midfielder in Serie A. The Serbian helped Lazio to a 2-1 comeback victory over Cagliari. He scored from the edge of the box to equalise just after his team fell behind a Giovani Simeone strike.
Right-winger: Carles Perez (Roma)
Carles Perez scored his first Serie A goal for Roma since making a January move from La Liga giants, Barcelona. The Spanish winger helped Roma to go 2-1 up against an already-relegated SPAL, with the capital club ultimately winning the contest by a 6-1 margin.
Left-winger: Hakan Calhanoglu (AC Milan)
Hakan Calhanoglu has been a different man since the restart and is one of the main reasons behind AC Milan‘s recent resurgence. The Turkish international, who was given a free role by manager Stefano Piolo against Sassuolo, provided two assists in a 2-1 victory.
Striker: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (AC Milan)
38-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic was simply unstoppable against Sassuolo. The veteran Swedish striker, who has previously played for Juventus and Inter Milan in Serie A, scored a brilliant brace to help the Rossoneri to vital three points in their quest for Europa League football next season.
Striker: Gianluca Lapadula (Lecce)
Gianluca Lapadula, who is on loan at Lecce from Genoa, is helping his present club fight against his parent club in the relegation scramble. The Italian striker scored an impressive brace in the 3-1 win over Brescia and kept Lecce’s survival hopes alive with three games remaining. Lecce are currently 18th on the Serie A table with 32 points, four behind 17th-placed Genoa.
