Meg Lanning becomes third player to reach 1000 runs in WPL

For a career that has always served Australia women’s team and always before personal objectives, having led by a great example with the bat, calmly and patiently as ever, there’s hardly a surprise as to how Meg Lanning is acing the Women’s Premier League aka the WPL scoresheets.

In becoming the first ever Australian cricketer in the women’s game to go past 1,000 runs in the elite franchise tournament, the right hander born in Singapore has once again hit the record books and in fine style.

Playing a brand new match against the UP Warriorz for Delhi Capitals, Meg Lanning conjured important runs and has gone past 1,050 runs in the famous tournament.

But so decorated and vital is her feet that not even established greats and eminent names such as Ellyse Perry, her fellow Australian compatriot has gone on to register 1,000 runs in the tournament, as on date.

The famous right hander who’s not part of this edition’s Women’s Premier League has scored 950 WPL runs. Only England’s Nat Sciver Brunt and in-form India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who’s leading the Mumbai team have crossed the rich milestone of scoring 1,000 WPL runs before Meg Lanning.

A calm leader and an illustrious captain, Meg Lanning, popularly nicknamed “Mega Star”, combines astute leadership and largely a grounded, riskfree strokeplay on either side of the wicket to mark her forte.

Not a player who gets under pressure, Lanning’s batting is about the rasp cuts and the grounded drives that often ease the scoring pressure for her team and her mates.

But for now, this is a long tournament and isn’t getting over anytime soon. Her Delhi Capitals team would want one of Australia’s all time best batters to continue to pile on the big runs needed to further a case for lifting the prized cup.
