Gede Priandana has created a special moment for Indonesian cricket by taking five wickets in a single over, a rare achievement in the sport. The performance has brought him well-deserved attention and highlighted the progress of cricket in Indonesia.
Priandana’s journey has not been an easy one
You read this right and yet, what is it that people often don’t realise?
Coming from a country where cricket is still developing, he has worked hard over the years to improve his skills and earn his place in competitive cricket. With limited exposure compared to players from traditional cricket nations, Priandana’s growth has come through discipline, training, and consistent performances.
The historic over came during a domestic match when everything seemed to click for him. Bowling with control and confidence, he used smart variations and accurate lines to trouble the batters. One wicket followed another, and before long, he had claimed five in the same over — a moment that stunned players and spectators alike.
This performance did more than change the match. It showed how far Priandana has come as a cricketer and what is possible for Indonesian players with dedication and belief. His achievement is also an encouraging sign for young cricketers in Indonesia who dream of representing their country.
Gede Priandana’s five-wicket over will be remembered as a milestone, not just for him personally, but for Indonesian cricket as it continues to grow and gain recognition.
But having said that, there are 2 others who too have claimed the same feat. One cricketer, Bangladesh’s Al-Amin Hossain achieved the rare and distinguished feat in a T20 competitive (not international) match in 2013, becoming one of the few to claim 5 wickets in the space of an over, which was now over a decade ago. The other cricketer happens to be the famous fast bowler Neil Wagner who in a contest featuring Otago in a competitive game in New Zealand (not an international contest), circa 2011, claimed the said feat.
