Definitely different… but it’s going to be great”: Jannik Sinner of F1 new regulations

The above, truth be told, is how World No. 2 Jannik Sinner summed up Formula 1’s highly debated 2026 regulations.

The Italian star — a well-known F1 enthusiast — shared his thoughts on the upcoming rule changes that have sparked mixed reactions across the paddock and among fans worldwide.

Sinner Backs F1’s New Direction

While criticism around the new regulations continues to grow, Sinner offered a more balanced perspective.

Speaking from a Ferrari point of view, he noted the competitive landscape with optimism.

With Ferrari running near the front and an Italian driver in contention, alongside George Russell at Mercedes — someone Sinner says he shares a close bond with — the season already feels engaging for him as a fan.

More significantly, Sinner emphasized the importance of patience when it comes to major regulatory changes.

He pointed out that such rules are designed to push the sport forward.

While the initial phase may not always look perfect, he remains confident that the long-term impact will be positive and ultimately elevate Formula 1.

Early Concerns Still Linger

Despite the optimism, the opening race at the Australian Grand Prix highlighted some early challenges.

Although the race delivered excitement, overtakes, and unpredictability, it also exposed areas of concern — including mechanical issues, frequent yellow flags, and ongoing questions around energy management under the new system.

These concerns weren’t entirely unexpected. Even during pre-season testing, teams had flagged potential issues with the revised hybrid units, particularly the risk of cars running low on energy — something that could affect race dynamics and the overall spectacle.
