Piero Ferrari sends blunt message to Ferrari as team eyes 2027 F1 season

Piero Ferrari has urged Ferrari to focus on delivering results rather than making promises as the team looks to end its long wait for another Formula 1 world championship. The Ferrari Vice-Chairman believes the Maranello outfit must turn its progress into tangible results after a challenging 2026 season.

Despite securing two victories this season, Ferrari has struggled to consistently match its rivals. With attention gradually shifting towards 2027, the team faces important decisions regarding its technical direction and the developments of its next car.

Speaking to Leo Turrini of Quotidiano Nazionale, Piero stressed that Ferrari’s supporters deserve more than encouraging words after years of waiting for a title.

Piero Ferrari Highlights Need for Results

“I quietly believe that our team needs facts, not talk,” Piero said, as he acknowledged that Ferrari had experienced both positive and disappointing moments during the season. He added that everyone associated with the team had a responsibility to help achieve the objective its fans had been waiting years to see fulfilled.

Ferrari’s preparations for 2027 will be particularly important as the team looks to address its performance deficit. While the SF-26 has shown promise in certain areas, the power unit has remained a significant concern against competitors such as Mercedes and Red Bull.

In addition to it, Piero also expressed hope that Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton would be in contention for the championship in 2027. He underlined the team’s need to return to consistent title-winning form.

Moreover, Ferrari was all praise for Mercedes’ young Italian driver Kimi Antonelli, whose championship campaign has attracted considerable attention. He said, “Maybe it won’t happen as early as Sunday in Texas, but frankly it seems impossible to me that Antonelli could lose the title. And I’ll add immediately that, for everything he has shown us over the course of the season, his coronation outweighs any doubts!”

Speaking on whether Antonelli could join Ferrari one day, he said, “Ah, many circumstances come into play here. There are contracts to respect and commitments that have already been made. Then, I’m not a hypocrite: who wouldn’t love to see an Italian behind the wheel of the car that carries my father’s name? And I suppose that, given his roots, the idea wouldn’t displease the boy from Bologna either. Maybe one day it will happen, why not?”
