Aaryavir Sehwag smashes 173 off 143 as Delhi post 289 in Vinoo Mankad Trophy

Former India opener Virender Sehwag’s son, Aaryavir Sehwag, came up with a stunning display of batting prowess in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. He put up a remarkable show and hit 173 runs off 143 deliveries as Delhi locked horns with Chandigarh on Friday at the P.V.G Raju ACA Sports Complex in Vizianagaram. Sehwag, who is also the captain of the Delhi U-19s, hit a total of 19 boundaries and eight sixes during his knock as the team posted 289 for six in the first innings.

However, his knock was not enough to secure a win as Chandigarh chased down the target to win by five wickets to spare. Nevertheless, the 18-year-old knock comes after a promising start to his Under-19 career. He made his debut in a three-match youth one-day series, and scored 109 runs in three innings at a strike rate of nearly 104.

Not only this, but he was also a part of the India A camp for the Australia A series in Rajkot. It goes without saying that being the son of one of India’s most destructive batters, comes with additional pressure. However, Virender Sehwag has advised his son to focus on cricket rather than worrying about the expectations attached.

Express yourself, don’t worry that you have to score big runs: Virender Sehwag’s advice to his son

Revealing the advice he has given to his son, Virender Sehwag had revealed that he wanted Aaryavir to just enjoy the game. “I am very proud of Aaryavir Sehwag. I gave him advice that, you know, pressure is there but go out there and play freely. Express yourself, don’t worry that you have to score big runs. If you express yourself, the big runs will automatically come. But if you think about big runs, then I don’t think the big runs will come,” he had said.

Coming back to the game, Meet Dahiya and Rupesh Yadav of Chandigarh, came up with impressive knocks of 63 off 69 and 167 off 125 to help the side chase the total in just 42 overs.
