England Announce Test and White-Ball Coaching Groups under Fleming and McCullum

England Cricket Board have confirmed the coaching staff for their men’s Test and white-ball teams, with Stephen Fleming and Brendon McCullum finalising their respective squads for the winter tours. Fleming will lead the Test side on the tour of South Africa, while McCullum remains in charge of the white-ball teams ahead of the 2027 World Cup. The former Chennai Super Kings head coach, has appointed Richard Dawson, Marcus Trescothick, James Foster and Eric Simons to his Test coaching staff.

Dawson returns to the England setup after spending two years as Glamorgan head coach, guiding the county to promotion and helping them establish themselves in Division One. He will also take up the newly created role of Elite National Spin Bowling Lead, overseeing spin development across the national pathway.

Trescothick, who served as England’s interim head coach during their recent 3-0 series win over Pakistan, continues in the setup, providing continuity as Fleming takes charge. Foster and Simons are the two notable additions, both having worked with Fleming at CSK. Former England wicketkeeper Foster has experience in international and franchise cricket, including previous consulting work with England’s white-ball teams and coaching roles with New Zealand and in The Hundred.

Simons is a former South Africa head coach and India bowling consultant, who worked with Fleming at CSK from 2018 to 2026. He is also an assistant coach at Joburg Super Kings. Mike Yardy has been appointed Elite National Batting Lead, while Troy Cooley continues as Elite National Pace Bowling Lead.

Brendon McCullum retains familiar White-Ball Coaching Staff

England white ball head coach Brendon McCullum’s white-ball coaching group will include Sarah Taylor, Jeetan Patel, Tim Southee and Kevin Pietersen, who will serve as a specialist batting mentor. Patel and Southee, both former New Zealand internationals who played alongside the current head coach also return to the setup. Taylor, the former England women’s wicketkeeper, continues her work with the team after providing specialist wicketkeeping support across formats this summer.

Kevin Pietersen will continue as batting mentor, bringing his experience to England’s limited-overs teams. The appointments give Fleming a Test coaching group that includes several of his former CSK colleagues, while McCullum retains a familiar group for the white-ball teams. England will look to improve their Test performances under Fleming while preparing for the next major challenge in limited-overs cricket, with the 2027 World Cup approaching.
