Max Verstappen ends Singapore GP drought with cruising victory

Max Verstappen ended his wait of Singapore Grand Prix with a commanding victory at Marina Bay on Sunday, October 11. The Red Bull racer converted pole position into a lights-to-flag win to secure his second straight Grand Prix win and completed a perfect weekend after also winning the Sprint Race earlier on Saturday.

Charles Leclerc finished second while Kimi Antonelli secured the third spot. However, Lewis Hamilton overcame a frustrating day with sixth spot finish after a strategic decision cost him the opportunity to challenge for a podium.

Max Verstappen controls race from beginning, finish atop podium

Verstappen controlled the race right from the beginning and held off Leclerc’s early challenge before building on his advantage. He maintained his pace through the pit-stop phase and managed the momentum to keep the team at bay. He crossed the finish line 7.7335 seconds before Leclerc, while Antonelli completed the podium.

This marked Verstappen’s first ever Singapore Grand Prix win, one of the few venues where the four-time World Champion had yet to triumph. It capped an impressive weekend for Red Bull, with Verstappen winning both the sprint and the main race. His back-to-back Grand Prix wins also strengthened his position in the championship fight as the 2026 season progressed towards the end.

While Verstappen had a weekend to remember, Lewis Hamilton’s race took a disappointing turn after he ran among the leading racers initially. He had started third and remained in contention for the podium, but his decision to stay out rather than pit ultimately hurt his chances. He struggled to maintain his position and eventually dropped to sixth. Following the race, he apologised to his team for a strategic call after the race and acknowledged his role in the outcome.
