As per reports from Times of India, Former India pacer Mohit Sharma is set to join as the new bowling coach for IPL 2027. The right arm pacer spent four seasons with CSK across two stints (2013-15 and 2019) and was a key part of the bowling unit under MS Dhoni. Overall he has played 120 IPL matches and took 134 wickets. He will replace Eric Simons in the role. This is another step in the post-Fleming reset. Zaheer took over as head coach earlier this month after Stephen Fleming’s long tenure ended.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the move, saying Zaheer Khan recommended him. “Mohit will join CSK as our new bowling coach. His name was recommended by our head coach Zaheer Khan. Mohit was tremendous with us as a player as well and we hope he will do a great job as bowling coach,” he told Times of India.
The franchise is slowly building a new support staff around the vision of the new coach, and picking someone who already knows the CSK culture makes it easier. Fans will be hoping Mohit’s experience and understanding of Chepauk conditions can help tighten the bowling unit that struggled at times last season.

CSK rebuild coaching staff after disappointing 2026 season
After finishing eighth in IPL 2026 with just six wins and missing the playoffs for a third straight year, Chennai Super Kings have done a reset to their coaching staff. Stephen Fleming’s 17-year run as head coach ended, and former India pacer Zaheer Khan has taken over on a one-year deal. He has been given full freedom to shape the support staff. The first major change was Mohit Sharma as bowling coach.
He replaces Eric Simons and brings the dual advantage of recent playing experience and a previous association with the franchise. Other roles are yet to be decided with Michael Hussey’s future as batting coach still unclear, as are the positions of assistant bowling coach, fielding coach and others. Viswanathan has indicated that the remaining staff will also be chosen on Zaheer’s recommendations in the coming weeks.
