Ruben Amorim gets better of former club Manchester United as AC Milan seal 4-2 pre-season win

Ruben Amorim enjoyed a memorable reunion with Manchester United as his AC Milan side secured a 4-2 victory in their final pre-season friendly in Wroclaw, Poland. The Portuguese manager watched his new team recover from an early setback after Harry Maguire gave United the lead. Patrick Dorgu restored the English side’s advantage after Samuel Chukwueze had equalised. However, Milan produced a strong second-half response. Alphadjo Cisse levelled the contest before Goncalo Ramos and Ruben Loftus-Cheek completed the comeback.

The result gave the former United head coach bragging rights against his old employers. The victory was also significant for the tactician as Milan had entered the fixture without a win during pre-season. His side looked increasingly comfortable in the 3-4-1-2 system as the match progressed. The Italian giants eventually punished United’s defensive weaknesses and controlled the closing stages. For Amorim, the result offered an encouraging boost before his first competitive season in charge of Milan. Meanwhile, United’s defeat ended their pre-season preparations on a disappointing note, despite goals from Maguire and Dorgu. The Red Devils also missed a penalty through Bruno Fernandes.

Marcus Rashford makes first Manchester United appearance since 2024 in AC Milan defeat

Marcus Rashford made his first appearance for Manchester United since December 2024 during the club’s 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in their final pre-season friendly. The England forward came off the bench in the second half as Michael Carrick continued preparations for the new Premier League campaign. Rashford returned to United after spending the second half of last season on loan at Barcelona. His comeback was one of the major talking points from the fixture in Wroclaw, Poland.

The 28-year-old forward was given opportunities to make an impact but could not find the net. He came close late in the match when Lisandro Martinez played a ball over the top, but Milan goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani smothered the chance. The energetic attacker also worked hard defensively and produced a strong tackle during another United move. His return comes at an important stage of his career. The versatile forward is looking to rebuild his place at United under Carrick after a difficult period at the club. He has also been assigned the No. 14 shirt for the upcoming season, although he wore No. 9 during the Milan friendly. United will now turn their attention to their Premier League opener against Hull City next Saturday.
