Bollywood star Tiger Shroff is gearing up for an exciting new chapter in his career, as reports are swirling that he might soon make his professional football debut in the Durand Cup. At 36, Shroff has reportedly joined the Mumbai FC squad for the ongoing 135th edition of the tournament and has been diligently training with the team. If the rumors hold true, he could step onto the pitch for the club’s final group-stage match, marking a thrilling crossover from the silver screen to the world of competitive football.
The latest reports indicate that Shroff has completed his registration with Mumbay FC and remains a strong contender for the team’s final group-stage fixture. A RevSportz report said, “Tiger has registered with the team and is most likely to make an appearance in the final group-stage match. He has been training regularly with the squad. Mumbay FC will travel to Shillong on July 30 for their group-stage fixtures.”
Mumbay FC Eye Strong Start in Maiden Durand Cup Appearance
Mumbay FC is all set to play its three Group E matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong. The club begins its campaign against Langsning SC on August 3, followed by a match against the 2024 semi-finalists Shillong Lajong on August 8. Their final group-stage clash will be with Nongkseh SS & CC on August 11, where Shroff is expected to make an appearance if everything goes according to plan.
This tournament really showcases how far the club has come since it was established in 2024. Mumbay FC clinched the inaugural Maharashtra State Club League Championship and finished third in I-League 3 last season, which earned them a spot in the Durand Cup. However, the club is still facing some infrastructure hurdles, like limited access to natural grass fields and the high costs of artificial pitches. Currently, the players train at Cooperage Ground, and they’ve also set up an additional training facility at a school ground in Navi Mumbai to help them get used to grass surfaces.
