Charles Leclerc Secures Ferrari’s 250th F1 Win in British GP at Silverstone

Charles Leclerc delivered a masterful performance as he clinched victory at the British GP, which became the talk of the town thanks to a strange finish under the safety car at Silverstone. The Ferrari driver triumphed in a thrilling race that unfolded with plenty of twists, including strategy shifts, mechanical issues, and a late crash, ultimately concluding behind the safety car. Meanwhile, Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli faced a tough day, failing to score for the second time in three races, which trimmed his championship lead down to 25 points. This win also celebrated a significant milestone for Ferrari, marking their 250th Formula 1 victory, adding to the rich history of the iconic Silverstone circuit.

Late drama reshaped the final podium as Lewis Hamilton finished third for Ferrari after running in contention for second place. A false-start penalty and a late pit stop during the safety car hurt his chances. Hamilton congratulated Leclerc after the race, as he said, “Firstly, a big, big congratulations to Charles, this is a great result for our team. I just didn’t have it today, I jumped the start, already got a penalty and Charles had to edge on me today. I’m grateful to be up here. The team is doing a phenomenal job. Look at these results, two wins for the team this year, this is fantastic.”

Lewis Hamilton Keeps Podium After FIA Verdict on Late-Race Investigation

Hamilton’s race was under scrutiny after crossing the finish line due to a potential yellow-flag violation. Fortunately for him, the stewards concluded that no further action was necessary, allowing him to retain his third-place finish. Meanwhile, Ferrari’s last-minute decision to pit Hamilton during the safety car period turned out to be a costly move, as George Russell opted to stay out and ultimately finished in second place. There was a moment of confusion when the timing screens briefly indicated that the safety car would head back to the pits for a final-lap restart. The FIA later clarified that all race protocols had been properly followed, attributing the misleading message to a software glitch.

Earlier in the race, Leclerc had taken charge right from the start, while Antonelli made a strong comeback, vying for the win with his fresher tires. Unfortunately, his chances were dashed when a failure of the left-front wheel shield caused damage to his Mercedes, leading to extra pit stops. To make matters worse, a track-limits penalty pushed him down to 16th place, leaving him out of the points. Verstappen’s late crash brought out the safety car, which ultimately secured Leclerc’s victory. Despite his disappointing outcome, Antonelli still leads the championship with 179 points, followed by Russell with 136 and Hamilton with 132. Norris has 85 points, Leclerc is at 83, Piastri has 82, and Verstappen sits seventh with 76. Hadjar, Gasly, and Lawson round out the top 10 as Formula 1 gears up for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps on July 19.
