Pakistan is set to make a significant move by building a state-of-the-art cricket stadium in Saudi Arabia, which is a big leap for the Kingdom in its quest to promote the sport and host high-profile events. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially inked a deal with Saudi Arabia to create a world-class cricket venue in Jeddah. This agreement was signed by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Saud bin Mishal bin Mohammad Al Saud, the head of the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation (SACF). This project aims to enhance cricket infrastructure, align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, and pave the way for the country to host international matches, all while fostering a deeper sporting partnership between the two nations.
The PCB has highlighted that, “For the first time in history, a strategic agreement has been signed between the PCB and the SACF for the construction of a modern cricket stadium in Jeddah.”
They’ve assured that the new venue will feature top-notch facilities and cutting-edge infrastructure that comply with the standards set by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Additionally, both parties will work together on stadium design, share technical know-how, and establish operational benchmarks.
Pakistan Revamps Squad For Upcoming West Indies Tour
In a significant shake-up, Pakistan is gearing up to head to the West Indies with a revamped Test squad, as selectors have made some bold choices. Notably, senior fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Naseem Shah have been left out, along with seasoned spinner Nauman Ali. The new pace lineup is set to include Mohammad Abbas (36), Mohammad Ali (33), Khurram Shehzad (27), the uncapped Ubaid Shah, and all-rounder Aamer Jamal. Pakistan will kick things off with a four-day warm-up match starting July 18, leading up to the first Test on July 25 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.
Reports suggest that the selectors feel Shaheen, Hasan, and Naseem are more suited for white-ball formats, while the decision to drop Nauman Ali signals a shift towards integrating younger talent into the Test team. Following the opening match in Tarouba, Pakistan will take on the West Indies again in the second Test starting August 2 at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. This two-Test series is part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle, and it will be followed by a three-Test tour of England later this season.
