Punjab Kings Cricketer Shashank Singh Booked After Cook Alleges Assault in Bhopal

Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh has found himself in a bit of hot water after an FIR was filed against him, his father Shailesh Singh, and their family driver in Bhopal. Shashank, who plays in the Indian Premier League for the Punjab Kings, is facing serious allegations from a former family cook, who claims he was assaulted, abused, and treated unfairly. His father, Shailesh Singh, a retired Special Director General of Police, is also implicated in this case. The Ratibad Police have taken action after the complainant reported that he was attacked and his mobile phone was confiscated. The FIR, which IANS has obtained, cites Sections 296(B), 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation into these claims is now underway.

The complaint comes from Vipendra Singh Tomar, who hails from Rewa and started working as a cook for the Singh family at their Neelbad bungalow on June 25, with a promise of a monthly salary of Rs 15,000, plus food and accommodation. He alleges that after some disagreements about his work, his phone was taken from him. When he asked for it back on June 28, he claims that, “On June 28, after preparing breakfast, I asked Shailesh Singh to return my mobile phone, but he refused. Upset over this, I went to my room. Shailesh Singh, his son Shashank Singh and their driver entered my room, abused me and started assaulting me with their hands and fists. After beating me, they forced me out of the house.”

He further claimed, Rs 1,000 was transferred from his phone to cover food and accommodation costs before he decided to go to the police.

Shashank Singh Breaks Silence, Denies Assault Allegations and Alleges Privacy Breach

Shashank Singh has firmly rejected all the allegations against him and raised questions about the timeline outlined in the complaint. He pointed out that the cook was only at their home from the evening of June 25 until the morning of June 28, arguing that such a brief stay doesn’t support the claim of wrongful confinement. Shashank also claimed that the cook had misrepresented his experience, initially boasting about his culinary skills but later admitting he couldn’t actually prepare many of the dishes he had claimed to know.

In his response to the allegations, Shashank accused the former cook of invading the family’s privacy by entering restricted areas of their home and recording videos without consent. He alleged that the cook filmed bedrooms, including those with valuable and luxury items, as he said, “He came into the house and started recording videos of bedrooms. He even entered the bedroom, where expensive and luxury items were kept, recorded videos there, and sent them to other people.”

According to Shashank, the family found these recordings on the employee’s phone and requested that he delete them due to their private nature. He also mentioned that the cook had asked for an advance payment of Rs 20,000 shortly after starting the job, even before demonstrating his cooking abilities.

Shashank emphasized that his family had only asked the cook to work for a few days to assess whether they would continue his employment and discuss payment afterward. He noted that his interactions with the cook were minimal and primarily focused on his cooking experience. The Punjab Kings batter also stated that no physical altercation occurred and insisted that any form of abusive behavior is completely out of character for him. While both parties have made serious accusations, the police investigation is ongoing, and the claims are still pending official verification.
