Rahul Dravid’s Son Anvay Joins India U-19 Team for Sri Lanka Series

The Indian cricket fans should brace themselves for yet another familiar surname as part of the national cricket side. Like his father Rahul Dravid, son Anvay Dravid has also made the cut for the under-19 side of India for the forthcoming tour of Sri Lanka. At 17 years of age, the left-handed wicketkeeper batsman has made it to the one-day squad for the matches slated to start from July 4. It indeed is a significant milestone for the budding talent.

The selectors have decided to pick two different squads for the one-day matches and the multi-day matches for the Sri Lanka tour. While Anvay Dravid will be representing India in one-day matches, he will be accompanied by fellow wicketkeeper Rajat Baghel in that regard. Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan and Lakshya Raichandani will act as captain and vice-captain respectively. The Indians are all set to play three one-day games before switching gears for the multi-day games.

Domestic Performances of Anvay Dravid

Anvay’s selection is a testament to his impressive track record in age-group cricket for Karnataka. He took the helm as captain of the Karnataka Under-19 team during the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, playing a pivotal role in their journey to the quarter-finals. Over six matches, he racked up 220 runs, boasting an average of 55. His standout performance came when he scored an unbeaten 82 against Himachal Pradesh, leading his team to a thrilling victory while chasing down 236 runs. He also made a solid contribution with a score of 63 against Chandigarh in the group stage.

Before this, Anvay represented India Under-19 B in a triangular series that featured India Under-19 A and Afghanistan Under-19. Although he only played one match and unfortunately went out for a duck, he made his mark behind the stumps with two catches. His strong performances at the domestic level eventually secured him a spot on Team C for the Under-19 One-Day Challenger Trophy.

In a notable milestone, Anvay has become the first of Rahul Dravid’s sons to earn a call-up to the India Under-19 team, making him available for national duty. His older brother, Samit, was picked for a home series against Australia in 2024 but unfortunately had to sit out due to an injury. As the next Under-19 World Cup cycle kicks off, Anvay’s selection marks the start of an exciting journey, as he aims to carve out his own identity in the world of Indian cricket.
