How you run a chase is indicative of your team’s ability to withstand pressure. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have silently managed to establish themselves as one of the best teams at completing the most difficult task in Twenty20 cricket – the runs required to score in excess of 200 runs in a game. Starting from a mammoth 228 in 2025, through to an almost clinical chase of 206 in 2026, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have recorded five chases of 200+ runs. Their best five are against Lucknow (228), Gujarat (206), Punjab (204), Hyderabad (202), and Gujarat again (201). These efforts show a shift from inconsistency to calculated aggression, placing them among the most dangerous chasing sides in the IPL.
The transition has certainly been dramatic. Previously, Royal Challengers Bengaluru used to falter in big chases. But now they seem to wrap up matches in style. This reflects well on their planning as well as the strong middle order that has supported the chase in all the above games.
228 vs Lucknow (2025)
Most memorable performance was recorded against the Lucknow Super Giants in the year 2025. They successfully chased down a total of 228 runs that had been set for them to win the match. This chase is considered their best one till date. The innings was driven by a fearless approach. However, Jitesh Sharma’s aggressive strokeplay turned the game. It remains their benchmark chase.
206 vs Gujarat (2026)
In the match against Gujarat Titans in 2026, RCB needed to score 206 to win the game, which they were able to achieve when playing at home. Virat Kohli played an instrumental role in scoring 81 runs in just 44 deliveries. Devdutt Padikkal made 55 in the game. Krunal Pandya completed the target at the end. The win also marked their 50th victory at the Bengaluru venue.
204 vs Punjab (2010)
When the Royal Challengers Bangalore had to face off against the Punjab Kings back in 2010, the team scored a whopping 204 runs. This is considered one of the first big 200-plus runs by RCB in a match. Kallis contributed significantly by scoring 89 not out.
202 vs Hyderabad (2026)
The chase for 202 runs by RCB against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2026 was an important milestone for the team. They achieved their target within just 15.4 overs, making it the fastest chase to exceed 200 runs in the IPL. Padikkal and Kohli were the key performers during this game. This match highlighted RCB’s new aggressive intent.
201 vs Gujarat (2024)
In the match held in Ahmedabad against Gujarat in 2024, the target for RCB was 201 runs. Jacks achieved an unbeaten century while Kohli backed him up with 70 runs. The run chase began calmly, without any stress, and ended comfortably.
This is evident from all the five instances of successful run chases listed above. It can be observed that RCB now manages to combine force with strategy. Big targets no longer intimidate them. Instead, they treat them as opportunities.
