An abrupt change in the league has made Dasun Shanaka the focal point of a brewing dispute in cricket. The Sri Lanka allrounder will be suspended from participating in the Pakistan Super League for a period of one season after withdrawing from the league and subsequently signing up with the Indian Premier League. Following an investigation into the matter by the board, it found that the withdrawal of Dasun Shanaka was done unilaterally without regard to terms set. He had initially signed up with the Lahore Qalandars team but withdrew from the league a day before its commencement. Shanaka has apologised to his fans for not participating in PSL 2026, saying, “I deeply regret my decision to withdraw from the PSL and offer my sincere apologies to the people of Pakistan, the fans of PSL, and the wider cricket community.”

The sudden withdrawal from the team by Shanaka caused much disturbance. Shanaka was selected through the PSL draft.
