The Arun Jaitley Stadium at Delhi witnessed an exciting last-ball drama involving Shubman Gill, who received both victory and punishment from it. Gill led his team, Gujarat Titans to a nail-biting one-run victory against the Delhi Capitals, but soon after that, he faced a fine of Rs. 12 lakhs for breaching the over rate rule. In what was GT’s third match of the IPL 2026 season, the game saw them emerge victorious. Though the team achieved their first victory in this edition, the timing violation ensured the night ended on a mixed note for the captain.
The fine was imposed on him according to Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, where a team is required to bowl its over within the time limit of 90 minutes. Since it was the first instance for Gujarat in the season, Gill alone had to pay the penalty. Nonetheless, any further delay would invite higher fines even for the whole playing eleven.

Shubhman Gill satisfied after third close-encounter this season
The Gujarat Titans had just what it took to win a tough game. After posting 210 runs, GT managed to pull it off after the Delhi team was unable to cross the mark of 209 runs for eight wickets. It all came down to when Delhi Capitals needed 2 off 2 balls. A single was turned down by David Miller before the last delivery, who backed himself to finish the game for Delhi. Miller missed a slower-bouncer from Prasidh Krishna on the last ball and attempted the run, but Jos Butler finished it off for GT with gloves in-hand.
Gill later expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall approach.
He said, “Definitely very pleased, 210. We always thought on this wicket, we are 10-15 runs above par.” He also pointed out the difficulty of batting late in the innings, adding, “It wasn’t easy to hit the big boundaries… if we bowl well, we should be able to win this one.” Reflecting briefly on his own performance, he said, “Yes, definitely. Now I just need to sleep and see how I wake up tomorrow.”
As they reflect on their recent victory but still have much to learn, the Gujarat Titans prepare for their next game against Lucknow Super Giants. While this will give them confidence, their performance shows that there is one key takeaway – efficiency must coincide with execution.
