To promote women’s football, the beautiful city of Jammu launched the Platinum Girl’s football league on January 11. This league will boast grassroots development and will act as a factory for the Indian Women’s national football team. The PGFL will be Jammu’s first ever corporate sponsored football league and is expected to do the world of good for women’s football in the region.
This landmark decision will come in very handy to identify and nurture bright and talented female footballers in Jammu. Bhisham Batra who has organised the entire league said that the league will create more opportunities and a professional structure for the girls of Jammu.
“This league is about creating opportunity, visibility, and a professional structure for girls’ football in Jammu,” said the organizer.

Big business houses have played an important role in making this league possible with their endless support. The games will be played at the Home of Legends Turf in Digiana. Six teams will take part in the inaugural edition of the championship. They are namely Sparc FC, Onyx FC, Platinum FC, Shivya A FC, Kaffberry FC, and Phoenix FC.
It will be a 7v7 affair with every club having a total strength of 10 players. The league will feature more than twenty players from Kashmir, ten from Hiranagar, five from Kathua, while the remaining players belong to Jammu city. The grand finale will take place on Thursday, January 14 at the very same venue and will give us the first Platinum Girl’s football league champion.
The first round witnessed Onyx FC and Shivya A FC play out a 1-1 draw while Sparc FC and Platinum FC ended the game with a goalless draw. Phoenix FC started strong and got the better of Kaffberry FC with 4-1. Tanzeel (Sonu) scored a match winning hat-trick and took her side home.
On the second day, Sparc FC secured a 6-1 win over Onyx FC before notching up a 1-0 win over Kaffberry FC. Three matches ended in a draw while Phoenix FC handed Onyx another defeat.
