Oscar Piastri: Ever Talented, Almost There in 2025, but Also Sentimental Favourite!

Oscar Piastri started this season strong winning the second race in China. Oscar Piastri got his 1 st win in F1 in his 2 nd year in F1. But his 3 rd year in Formula 1 was very different from the rest. He won 7 races this season!

Oscar Piastri gave Max Verstappen and Lando Norris a run for their money in 2025. A solid one. In some instances, it felt as if it was Piastri’s world where the Oscar for the biggest award all but went to the Aussie who was anything but insipid in that car, driving often times as a man possessed and determined to see the checkered flag first-and faster-than anyone else.

That he got that sort of an elan about him was seriously hard to ignore. He took no pressures.

Didn’t even over-celebrate poles.

Here’s a case in point.

Oscar won in China from Pole Position. It was also the one and only race this year where Lewis Hamilton got on the podium. Lewis won the Chinese GP Sprint Race! Oscar Piastri was already ahead of Lando Norris in the championship by race 6 of this season.

Oscar Piastri in 2025, was on his way to claim the championship trophy by the end of the season. By the Italian GP, the 16 th race of the season Oscar was 31 points ahead of Lando Norris!

Oscar Piastri became the No.1 driver for McLaren

Oscar Piastri led the major part of this season, he started winning from China, and went on to win 7 races in 2025. After the Chinese GP, Oscar was on the podium in every race until the Canadian GP.

Then again he was back on the podium right after Canada, until Azeebaijan. In between the Canadian GP and the Azerbaijan GP, Oscar won the Belgium and the Netherlands GP.

He defeated Max Verstappen at his home turf, while his teammate Lando suffered a DNF due to an engine failure. It seemed like Lando Norris was suffering the short end of the stick in regard to mechanical faults.

How Oscar went from being a sure shot championship

But forget not, into being the 3 rd in the championship? Oscar Piastri really lost his cool from the Azerbaijan GP. Oscar Piastri has been nicknamed the Ice Boy, a nickname which comes from Kimi Raikonnen’s nickname The Iceman, because Oscar Piastri also has kept his cool in a lot of tense situations.

But at the Azerbaijan GP, Oscar really lost his calm composure. His race start was bungled as he jumped the start lights. Then at Turn 5, Oscar locked up going into the corner somehow which was a very big rookie mistake.

Something like it was not expected nor could anyone have foreseen it coming, but Oscar locked up and went straight into the wall at Turn 5, and ended his race right then and there.

From there Oscar’s confidence really took a dive!

Oscar went from winning races consecutively to not even finishing on the podium until the last two races of the season. Moreover, the Victorian, the rookie who had come to F1 only 2 years ago, the man who beat his teammate, at least for the first half of the season, Lando Norris who has a lot more experience than him in F1, lost his cool when it mattered the most.

Did he not? Think we are bluffing?

Oscar Piastri was overtaken by Max Verstappen at Qatar! Oscar lost his championship position to Max Verstappen after finishing 2 nd at the Qatar GP.

And that was all he wrote!

Oscar Piastri was handed a golden opportunity to win the championship this year, but after handling a lot of team drama, some anti-favouritism, and a loss of confidence he still managed to finish 3rd in the 2025 F1 World Championship. And if that’s not skill, then it’s a lot of perseverance and determination. Bravo, Oscar you did good, damn good. But maybe, there always will be more opportunities!
