Shreyas Iyer Injury UpdateImage Source : BCCI

In what appears to be a major update with regards to Indian men’s national cricket team, Shreyas Iyer, who hit a crucial fifty in the Adelaide one-dayer, in which he hit a fine 61, has been struck with an injury. The soon-to-turn 31, got hit in his rib cage whilst on the field in the third and final one day international against Australia, a contest where India did finally emerge on top of the challenging Aussies. Even as the team earned a saving grace of sorts having been blanked by the hosts in the opening two rounds of the white-ball series, Shreyas Iyer’s injury does come as a damning blow of sorts.

As a matter of fact, so serious was the hit endured by Shreyas Iyer that the fielder in the third and final one layer have to eventually be admitted into the Intensive Care Unit of a Sydney hospital.

This leaves the dynamic Mumbai-born Indian cricketer out of action for quite some time. Gladly, as the year is drawing to a close and with much of the 2025-bound cricketing saga already rendered complete, the committed middle order marksman with the willow won’t be missing out on too much. This should motivate him to recover in time for further international cricket challenges. Won’t you reckon?

Having been playing one day international cricket for his passionate side, Iyer, who’s been a proud member of the limited overs arena since 2017, is also in touching distance of a major career milestone.

So what is that?

As it turns out, the brave Indian batter needs just 83 runs more to complete 3000 one-day international runs for Team India. His current tally rests against 2,917 runs while wearing the Indian blue.

That being said, the charismatic batter, who was in the peak of his form during the last edition of the men’s ODI World Cup, circa 2023, in which he produced several fifty plus knocks for India, has played a total of 138 international games for his country.
