As of October 2025, India and the West Indies men’s national cricket team’s have locked horns in a Test bi-lateral series on 26 separate occasions. Out of these, both the West Indies and India have won on 12 occasions, with 2 series’ ending in a draw.
While it may seem Even Stevens at the moment, the momentum, particularly speaking from the onset of 2002 until the present day shifted towards India. Something quite easily understood by the fact that the West Indies have never won even a single series from 2002 onward; India thrashing the once formidable side on every single count.
Having said that, while India’s dominance has become the headlining act and why not, given its sheer talent both on the field and a strong bench strength, the West Indies did, at the very least, put up a fight as seen at the New Delhi Test most recently. While the visitors to the Indian shores did collapse horribly and that too, inside Day 3 of the First (of the two) Test at Ahmedabad held at the stadium named after the venerable Prime Minister of the country, the West Indies, despite being slapped with a follow-on, knocked off the deficit and made India work a bit for their win. It was, don’t know about you, but an interesting show of character and grit in the national capital with the hosts being made to occupy the field for a good 118.5 overs (Windies’ second innings), to be precise.

Did the capital city crowd habitual of chicken tikkas, frequent honking, bread pakoras and Lutyens’ gardens see a cactus in the form of John Campbell, the first-ever centurion from the Windies stable on the tour? Did Shai crush the hopes of what should or could have ideally been a walk in the park for a truly mighty bowling side or were we India perhaps taught a lesson in humility that the ‘weaker’ teams do have a right to fight back and hence the Test match actually reaching the fifth day?
Who knows? But at least the series ended on a fighting note, only with the often angry, cricket-loving Delhiites seeing the fight coming from a team that has stooped to consistent standards of mediocrity over the years.
Good on them. Good on the crowds to turn up for Test cricket in respectable numbers. And great World Championship Points for Team India who won the series at the back of epic performances by Kuldeep Yadav, ‘Sir’ Jadeja, DSP Siraj, not related to the Mutual Fund, and the blazing hundreds by Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Gill.
Forget not the vital contributions from the still-underrated KL Rahul and one of the nicest talents in the Indian side, Dhruv Jurel.
